Prince Edward Island sales tax credit

This credit is a tax-free amount paid to help offset the increase in the sales tax for households with low and modest incomes.

The program provides an annual credit of $110 for an individual plus, if applicable, $55 for a spouse, common‑law partner or an eligible dependant. There is also a supplement of 0.5% of adjusted family net income over $30,000, up to a maximum of $55. The total of the above is reduced by 2% of adjusted family net income over $50,000.

One-time additional payments

In July 2022, individuals are eligible for a one-time enhanced payment. This one-time enhanced payment is an additional amount  of up to $290 for an individual (carbon rebate of $140, plus an emergency support payment of $150). If applicable, there is also an emergency support payment of up to $150 for an eligible spouse, common-law partner or dependent.

In January 2023, individuals are again eligible for a one-time enhanced payment. This one-time enhanced payment is an additional amount of up to $500 for an individual plus, if applicable, up to $500 for a spouse, common-law partner or the first child in a single parent family. Individuals and families with an adjusted family net income of $100,000 or under will receive the full amount. Those with an adjusted family net income between $100,000 and $145,000 will receive a partial amount. Individuals may receive the enhanced benefit payment in January 2023 even if they don't normally receive Prince Edward Island sales tax credit payments because their family net income exceeds the threshold.

The Prince Edward Island sales tax credit, carbon rebate and emergency support payment are fully funded by the province of Prince Edward Island.

This amount is combined with the quarterly payments of the federal GST/HST credit.
