The Quebec Child Assistance Measure

Beginning in January 2005, the Child Assistance measure will replace the Quebec family allowance, the tax credit for dependent children and the tax reduction for families.

It is calculated on the basis of family income for the preceding year, the number of children (under 18 years of age), and family type (single-parent or two-parent).

For all births, adoptions, and changes of custody (excluding government departments, agencies, or institutions), you have to complete the Canada Revenue Agency's Form RC66, Canada Child Tax Benefit Application .

Whether or not you are entitled to the Canada Child Tax Benefit, the Canada Revenue Agency will automatically send the Régie des rentes du Québec all the information needed to register your children for the Quebec Child Assistance measure.
