Adding CRA program accounts to your business number
As of May 13, 2024, the CRA no longer registers and maintains import and export RM program accounts. These services are now provided by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). However, if you don’t have a business number, get it from the CRA using Business Registration Online before contacting the CBSA. Learn more: CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM).
Generally, when you register for a business number (BN), you also register for the program accounts you require at that time.
If your business expands after you register for a BN, you might need to add other program accounts to your BN.
The five major Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) business accounts are:
- RT, Goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax
- RP, Payroll deductions
- RC, Corporate income tax
- RR, Registered charity
- RZ, Information returns
