Change a business address

Notify the Canada Revenue Agency as soon as possible of changes in any of your business addresses.

Different types of business addresses

Physical address: The physical address is the business or head office address. This address must be where the day-to-day activities take place.

It must represent the physical location of your actual business. You cannot use such things as RR numbers or PO boxes as a business address. If a street address is not available, use the legal description of the location of the business. For example, Lot 1, Concession 2.

Mailing address: The mailing address can be different from the physical address. For example, you could have your business mail delivered to your home or your accountant.

Books and records address: If your business books and records are at a location different from your physical address, you must provide this information to the CRA.

Different mailing addresses for each of your registered business accounts: If you have different mailing addresses for your registered business accounts, you or your representative must notify us of the change of address.

Before you call

To verify your identity, you'll need:

  • your business number
  • your business name
  • your complete business address
  • your business account open or an assessed return, notice of assessment, reassessment, or other tax document

Write a letter to include:

  • your signature
  • your business name
  • your business number (BN)
  • your old address
  • your new address
  • the effective date of the change
  • the CRA program accounts that need to be updated with the new address (or indicate if all accounts should be updated
  • if changing more than one address related to your business, indicate all addresses on file that need to be changed.
