4. Conditions for registration
A disability savings plan is registered at the time the disability savings plan application form is signed and the following conditions are met:
- The registered disability savings plan (RDSP) beneficiary is eligible for the disability tax credit in the year their RDSP is opened
- The beneficiary is resident in Canada at the time their RDSP is opened
- The financial institution administering the RDSP receives the beneficiary's social insurance number, name, date of birth, and gender
- The financial institution administering the RDSP receives the social insurance number, name, date of birth, and gender of the person who opened the RDSP. (If an organization is opening the plan, they must give their business number, and name to the financial institution) and
- The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has given the financial institution approval to market RDSPs to their clients
If these conditions are not met or if the CRA is not able to validate this information, the RDSP's registration will be nullified.
