Change your Correspondence preference online
You can update your Correspondence preference in My Account.
If your preference is set to Electronic mail, you will receive an email notification when you have new mail to view from the CRA in My Account and when important changes are made on your account.
You will not receive a paper copy delivered to you through Canada Post.
If you prefer to receive paper mail from the CRA, you can update your Correspondence preference in My Account.
Individual mail refers to notices, letters, forms, statements, and other documents that are sent by the CRA to communicate important information about your individual income tax and benefit account or returns.
Keep your email address up to date
The CRA uses the email address on file to send you email notifications when:
- you have new mail to view in My Account
- important changes are made to your account
You must update your Notification preferences if you change your email address.
Change how you receive your CRA mail
You can view or make changes to your Correspondence preference when you sign in to your CRA account.
- Sign in to your CRA account
- Select your Individual account to go to My Account
- From the Overview page, select Profile
- Go to Notification Preferences
- Select Edit
- On the Edit notification preferences page, select the Start button
- Confirm that your email address is correct in the Email address field
Choose your Correspondence preference:
Select “Electronic mail”
You will receive online mail in My Account.
You will stop receiving most paper mail. Certain documents may still be mailed
Unselect “Electronic mail”
You will receive paper mail.
- Select Next
- Confirm you’ve reviewed the Terms of use and select Submit
View your mail online
You can view your mail when you sign in to your CRA account.
To access your online mail:
- Sign in to your CRA account
- Select the mail icon for your Individual account
You can also view your mail when you select your Individual account. You can find your mail under Correspondence.
You cannot delete online mail from your CRA account.
If you are an authorized representative
- Sign in to your CRA account
- Select your Representative account
- Enter your client’s 9-digit Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Select Access SIN
- Under Correspondence, select Mail
Update the language for your correspondence
If you would like to receive mail or messages in the other official language, you can change your language of correspondence.
