Supporting Arts, Culture and Multiculturalism in Newfoundland and Labrador

BAY ROBERTS, Newfoundland and Labrador, August 2, 2018

Today Sean Casey, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage), was in Bay Roberts to highlight the support provided by the Government of Canada to arts, culture and multiculturalism organizations. He was accompanied by Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament (Avalon).

On behalf of the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, Mr. Casey announced that the Government of Canada has provided $15,892,533 in funding to organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador since 2016.

This funding has been provided in support of 762 initiatives promoting arts, heritage and multicultural initiatives throughout the province.

Aboriginal People’s Program

This program promotes, revitalizes and preserves Indigenous languages and cultures; strengthen Indigenous cultural identity; and increases Indigenous participation in Canadian society.

Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage

This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.

Canada Arts Presentation Fund

The Fund gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada’s culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances and other artistic experiences.

Canada Book Fund

The Support for Organizations component of the Canada Book Fund contributes to the marketing and promotion of Canadian-authored books, and also serves to strengthen the infrastructure and efficiency of the Canadian book industry.

Canada Cultural Investment Fund

The Fund encourages private sector investment, partnership and sound business practices to help arts and heritage organizations be better rooted and recognized in their communities.

Canada Cultural Spaces Fund

The Fund supports the improvement of physical conditions for arts, heritage, culture and creative innovation. It supports renovation and construction projects, the acquisition of specialized equipment and feasibility studies related to cultural spaces.

The Fund provides financial assistance to Canadian print magazines, non-daily newspapers and digital periodicals to enable them to overcome market disadvantages and continue providing Canadian readers with the content they choose to read.

Celebrate Canada provides funding for activities organized on National Indigenous Peoples Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day and Canada Day.

The Inter-Action: Multiculturalism Funding Program supports the socio-economic integration of individuals and communities and helps them contribute to building an integrated, socially cohesive society.
