The relocation process - Registration and file initiation

The information on these pages is intended to help you throughout the relocation process and is related to the most frequently used benefits. Refer to the Canadian Forces Integrated Relocation Program (CFIRP) Directive for a full list of entitlements and seek clarification from your relocation agent (BGRS).

As soon as you know you will be posted and before your posting instruction arrives:

  • Read the CFIRP directive
  • Find out who your CFIRP coordinator is on your base
  • Ensure you know the geographical boundaries of your new place of duty

Within 21 days of receipt of posting instruction:

  • Register on the BGRS website using info exactly as it appears on your posting message
  • Create your email ID and password for your Member Secure Website (MSW)
  • Ensure you select the proper "Move Type", for example: Posting, Release, Unaccompanied
  • You will be guided through the steps to complete your Preliminary Relocation Assessment
  • Book your planning session
  • Watch the virtual information presentation on "Navigating Your Move Profile"
  • Ensure your banking information is entered so funds (advances and claim payments) may be sent electronically to your account
  • Familiarize yourself with the BGRS website and review the videos provided

Note: It may take up to a week from the date the posting or release message is cut before a file is generated in BGRS’ system. BGRS is not authorized to serve a CAF member without a file in their system. If you still are unable to register after one week, request assistance through your CFIRP coordinator.

For moves to intended place of residence on release, please see your local release base.

Tips

A list of CFIRP coordinators for each base is available on the DND intranet under relocation management. If you do not have access during your relocation, your base orderly room will point you to the correct person.
