Processing time

The processing time for a special or diplomatic passports is 15 business days.

The processing times for foreign visas is added to the 15 business days it takes to get a special or diplomatic passport. It can take between 3 and 45 days depending on the country. We have no control over the time it takes another country to process a visa and can’t influence those processing times.

Return your passport for safekeeping after you travel

A Canadian passport is the property of the Government of Canada at all times.

After you travel, return your special or diplomatic passport, unless your department can safekeep the passport. You can get it back it when you need it again for your next official trip.
