Bell Let’s Talk Day—Breaking the silence around mental illness
Ombudsman Message | 26 January 2022
Today is Bell Let’s Talk Day, a reminder to act and to share messages of support for mental health. As always, but especially today, I would like to help break the silence around mental illness across Canada.
Living through a global pandemic has been difficult. I know that the past two years have presented us with unique challenges, whether it’s quarantining in isolation, supporting operations—both domestic and international—or homeschooling our children. We shouldn’t be surprised if this has had repercussions for the mental health of our Defence community members.
Mental health issues can come in many forms, such as depression, anxiety, and fatigue. If you're struggling, I urge you to talk to someone—a friend, a colleague, a professional—to get emotional support. Mental health services and programs are also available to give you the help you need:
- Resources for employees for mental health in the workplace
- Mental health in the Canadian Armed Forces
Please remember that you're not alone. We are in this—and are stronger—together.
In 2022 and beyond, let’s aim to share our feelings and experiences more often, while learning from and supporting each other.
