1. Program design

  • Is aligned with regional needs and the Government of Canada’s objectives, with input from stakeholders. Final design parameters are subject to Ministerial, Cabinet, and Treasury Board approval.

2. Implementation (project lifecycle)

  • 7 phases to secure funding:
    1. Outreach to potential applicants
    2. Intake of applications through the PrairiesCan web portal
    3. Assessment and due diligence of proposals to inform funding recommendations
    4. Internal review and approval of funding recommendations by President and Minister
    5. If approved, legally binding agreement established between PrairiesCan and the recipient
    6. Administration and monitoring of funded projects, and collecting repayable contributions
    7. Final analysis and closure

3. Program evaluation

  • After completion, programs are reviewed for effectiveness, with lessons used to improve future initiatives.
