Eligibility for the Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program for businesses
Eligibility criteria
Any business in possession of a prohibited firearm (including lower receivers), upper receivers or certain associated eligible parts and components can submit a claim to the program if:
- The business held a valid firearms licence before the relevant prohibitions of May 1, 2020, December 5, 2024 or March 7, 2025 and has maintained that licence in good standing
- Their inventory includes eligible firearms, devices and/or certain associated parts and components
- The business complies with the program's terms and conditions
What you need before you start
To create an account
To begin the claim process, an authorized representative of the business must register an account and provide the following information:
- First and last name
- Date of birth
- Email address
- Business Licence Number (BLN)
- Business Identification Number (BIN)
In most cases, your account should show up in the system within a few minutes, however it may take up to 24 hours to appear.
To submit a claim for compensation
You can save your progress as you complete your claim, so you can come back at a later time. It should take about 15-20 minutes to submit your claim depending on the number of firearms, devices, parts and components you have.
To begin, you will need the following information:
- a list of your eligible firearms, previously restricted and registered with the Canadian Firearms Program, including:
- firearm reference number (FRN), make, model, serial number
- This information will be pre-populated in your ASFCP account based on our records, but should be verified for accuracy
- firearm reference number (FRN), make, model, serial number
- a list of all prohibited, previously non-restricted firearms that you have including:
- firearm reference number (FRN), make, model, serial number, capacity/shots, gauge/calibre, and barrel length
- You will need to add this information to your ASFCP claim
- firearm reference number (FRN), make, model, serial number, capacity/shots, gauge/calibre, and barrel length
- a list of any devices, parts and components that are not part of a complete or assembled firearm and were in your inventory prior to May 2020, December 2024 or March 2025
- bank account information for direct deposit
The deadline for businesses to submit claims is June 4, 2026, subject to the availability of program funds. Please note that payment of compensation is dependent on the successful completion of all required firearm validations. Participating in the program is voluntary, however businesses (except those with required registration certificates and specific privileges on their licence) must safely dispose of or permanently deactivate their assault-style firearms before the amnesty period expires on October 30, 2026, or risk criminal liability for the illegal possession of a prohibited firearm.
Service standards
After your shipment has been received at the specified facility, payment will be issued within 45 business days, provided that all required firearm validations are successfully completed, and no additional review is required.
To help process your payment as quickly as possible, please fill out your claim accurately and ensure that your direct deposit details are up to date.
