What's new for 2000?

The basic Yukon income tax rate has been reduced to 49% of the basic federal tax.

The Yukon labour-sponsored venture capital corporation tax credit is a non-refundable credit that reduces Yukon tax by 25% of eligible investments in the Fireweed Fund Corporation, up to an annual maximum of $1,250.

Yukon Child Benefit

The Yukon Child Benefit (YCB) is a tax-free monthly payment to help low- and modest-income families with the costs of raising their children under age 18. Benefits from this program are combined with the federal Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) into a single monthly payment.

Under the YCB, you may be entitled to receive a benefit of $300 per year ($25 per month) per child. The amount of the benefit is reduced if your family net income is more than $16,700.

You do not have to apply separately to receive payments under this program. We will use the information from the CCTB application to determine your eligibility for the program. You (and your spouse) should file your 2000 tax return(s) as soon as possible. The information you supply on your tax return (and, if applicable, your spouse's return) will determine how much you will receive beginning in July 2001.

The program is funded by the Yukon with a contribution from the federal department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development on behalf of status Indian children. For more information on the Yukon Child Benefit, call 1-800-387-1193.

Did you reside on Yukon First Nations settlement land?

If you resided on settlement land of an agreeing Yukon First Nation at the end of the year, enter the First Nation name and identification number on page 1 of your return. Complete Form YT432, Yukon First Nations Tax, to determine the part of federal and territorial tax that is transferred to the Yukon First Nation government responsible for the settlement land where you resided. Attach a completed copy to your paper return.
