Request a clearance certificate: Step 5. After you apply
COVID-19: Important updates
During the COVID-19 pandemic, processing times for clearance certificates may be longer than usual. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) mail operations are currently limited. If you or your representative submitted a request by mail between March 12, 2020 and November 30, 2020, and you have not received any communication from the CRA, it is recommended that you resubmit the request electronically through My Account, Represent a Client, or My Business Account.
Step 5. After you apply
The CRA will send you an acknowledgement letter within 30 days of receiving your request for a clearance certificate.
The CRA’s assessment can take up to 120 days, assuming you provide all of the necessary documents. However, in certain situations, the CRA may need to do an audit before it issues the clearance certificate.
If you have not received your certificate or a clearance certificate officer has not contacted you within 120 days, contact enquiries at:
- For individual (T1), or trust (T3) accounts call 1-800-959-8281
- For corporations (T2) or GST/HST accounts call 1-800-959-5525
