Andorra—Working Holiday

Description: The Working Holiday category is designed for Andorran citizens who intend to travel in Canada and who wish to find temporary paid employment to help pay for their trip (up to 12 months).

Note: As an Andorran citizen, you may participate in IEC only once.

To be eligible for the Working Holiday category, you must:

  • be an Andorran citizen
  • have a valid Andorran passport for the duration of your stay in Canada
    • Your work permit in Canada can’t be valid longer than your passport
  • be between the ages of 18 and 30 (inclusive)
  • have a minimum of CAN$2,500 to help cover your expenses in Canada
  • have health insurance for the duration of your stay
    • You may have to present evidence of this insurance when you enter Canada
  • not be inadmissible to Canada
  • have, before departure, a round-trip ticket or demonstrate that you’ll have the financial resources to purchase a departure ticket at the end of your authorized stay in Canada
  • not be accompanied by dependants
  • pay the fees

Australia—Working Holiday

Description: The Working Holiday category is designed for Australian citizens who intend to travel in Canada and who wish to find temporary paid employment to help pay for their trip (up to 24 months).

Note: As an Australian citizen, you may participate in the Working Holiday category only once. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may participate in IEC one more time through the International Co-op (Internship) category.

Exception: If you participated in IEC one or more times before 2015, you might be eligible for a final participation of up to 24 months in the category of your choice.

To be eligible for the Working Holiday category, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen
  • have a valid Australian passport for the duration of your stay in Canada
    • Your work permit in Canada can’t be valid longer than your passport
  • be between the ages of 18 and 35 (inclusive)
  • have a minimum of CAN$2,500 to help cover your expenses in Canada
  • have health insurance for the duration of your stay
    • You may have to present evidence of this insurance when you enter Canada
  • not be inadmissible to Canada
  • have, before departure, a round-trip ticket or demonstrate that you’ll have the financial resources to purchase a departure ticket at the end of your authorized stay in Canada

Australia—Young Professionals

Description: The Young Professionals category is designed for Australian citizens, particularly post-secondary graduates, who wish to further their careers by gaining professional work experience in Canada. Participants must have a signed letter of offer or a signed contract of employment (up to 24 months) before submitting their profiles to the Young Professionals pool.

Note: As an Australian citizen, you may participate in the Young Professionals category only once. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may participate in IEC one more time through the International Co-op (Internship) category.

Exception: If you participated in IEC one or more times before 2015, you might be eligible for a final participation of up to 24 months in the category of your choice.

To be eligible for the Young Professionals category, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen

Description: The International Co-op (Internship) category is designed for Australian citizens who are enrolled at a post-secondary institution in Australia. Participants must be registered students for the duration of the internship. Participants must want to complete a work placement or internship in Canada to fulfil part of their academic curriculum (up to 12 months).
Participants must have a signed letter of offer or a signed contract of employment before submitting their profile to the pool.

Note: As an Australian citizen, you may participate in the International Co-op (Internship) category only once. If this is your first participation, you may participate one more time in IEC through the Working Holiday category or Young Professionals category provided you meet all other eligibility criteria.

Exception: If you participated in IEC one or more times before 2015, you might be eligible for a final participation of up to 24 months in the category of your choice.

To be eligible for the International Co-op (Internship) category, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen
  • have a valid Australian passport for the duration of your stay in Canada
    • Your work permit in Canada can’t be valid longer than your passport

Description: The Young Professionals category is designed for Austrian citizens permanently employed in Austria who wish to further their careers by gaining professional work experience in Canada. Participants must have a signed letter of offer or a signed contract of employment (up to 12 months) with a partner, parent or subsidiary company in Canada before submitting their profiles to the Young Professionals pool.

Note: As an Austrian citizen, you may participate once per IEC category (Working Holiday, Young Professional and International Co-op).

To be eligible for the Young Professionals category, you must:

  • be an Austrian citizen
  • have a valid Austrian passport for the duration of your stay in Canada
    • Your work permit in Canada can’t be valid longer than your passport
  • prove you’re a resident of Austria when you apply
    • This means you must give either a residential or mailing address in Austria
  • be between the ages of 18 and 35 (inclusive)
  • have a minimum of CAN$2,500 to help cover your expenses in Canada
  • have health insurance for the duration of your stay
    • You may have to present evidence of this insurance when you enter Canada
  • be permanently employed by an Austrian company and be coming to work with a partner, parent or subsidiary company in Canada
  • not be inadmissible to Canada
  • have, before departure, a round-trip ticket or demonstrate that you’ll have the financial resources to purchase a departure ticket at the end of your authorized stay in Canada
  • have proof of permanent employment with the Austrian partner, parent or subsidiary company of your prospective Canadian employer

Austria—International Co-op (Internship)

Description: The International Co-op (Internship) category is designed for Austrian citizens who are enrolled at a vocational/specialized/secondary/post-secondary institution or who have graduated within the last 12 months. Students and graduates must want to complete a work placement or internship in Canada in forestry, agriculture or tourism. The internship or placement must fulfil part of the curriculum for student participants or contribute to the professional development for graduates (up to 6 months).

Participants must have a signed letter of offer or a signed contract of employment before submitting their profile to the pool.

Note: As an Austrian citizen, you may participate once per IEC category (Working Holiday, Young Professional and International Co-op).

To be eligible for the International Co-op (Internship) category, you must:

  • be an Austrian citizen
  • have a valid Austrian passport for the duration of your stay in Canada
    • Your work permit in Canada can’t be valid longer than your passport
  • prove you’re a resident of Austria when you apply
    • This means you must give either a residential or mailing address in Austria
  • be between the ages of 18 and 35 (inclusive)
  • be registered as a student in forestry, agriculture or tourism, or have graduated in those fields within the past 12 months from a post-secondary institution outside Canada

Belgium—Working Holiday

Description: The Working Holiday category is designed for Belgian citizens who intend to travel in Canada and who wish to find temporary paid employment to help pay for their trip (up to 12 months).

Note: As a Belgian citizen, you may participate in IEC only once.

To be eligible for the Working Holiday category, you must:

  • be a Belgian citizen
  • have a valid Belgian passport for the duration of your stay in Canada
    • Your work permit in Canada can’t be valid longer than your passport
  • prove you’re a resident of Belgium when you apply
    • This means you must give either a residential or mailing address in Belgium
  • be between the ages of 18 and 30 (inclusive)
  • have a minimum of CAN$2,500 to help cover your expenses in Canada
  • have health insurance for the duration of your stay
    • You may have to present evidence of this insurance when you enter Canada.
    • If you’ll work in Quebec, you may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the Quebec Health Insurance Plan. This insurance doesn’t cover repatriation, which is required to participate in IEC. If you use the Quebec Health Insurance Plan, you must get extra insurance that covers repatriation. Note: As a Croatian citizen, you may participate in IEC twice, under any category. There must be a three-month break between the expiry date of your first Canadian work permit under IEC and the submission date of your second IEC work permit application.

Note: As a Croatian citizen, you may participate in IEC twice, under any category. There must be a three-month break between the expiry date of your first Canadian work permit under IEC and the submission date of your second IEC work permit application.

Ukraine—International Co-op (Internship)

The Youth Mobility Arrangement between Canada and Ukraine is not accepting applicants. Further information will be provided once available.

Description: The International Co-op (Internship) category is designed for Ukrainian citizens who are enrolled at a post-secondary institution in Ukraine. Participants must be registered students for the duration of the internship. Participants must want to complete a work placement or internship in Canada as part of their academic curriculum (up to 12 months).

Participants must have a signed letter of offer or a signed contract of employment before submitting their profile to the pool.

Note: As a Ukrainian citizen, you may participate in IEC twice, under any category.

To be eligible for the International Co-op (Internship) category, you must:

  • be a Ukrainian citizen
  • have a valid Ukrainian passport for the duration of your stay in Canada
    • Your work permit in Canada can’t be valid longer than your passport
  • be between the ages of 18 and 35 (inclusive)
  • be registered as a student at a post-secondary institution in Ukraine

Description: The Working Holiday category is designed for British citizens who intend to travel in Canada and who wish to find temporary paid employment to help pay for their trip.

Note: As a British citizen, you may participate in IEC twice:

  • a first participation of 24 months under any category
  • a second participation of 12 months under any category

If you participated in IEC before 2015 for a period of up to 12 months, you are eligible for a second participation of up to 24 months in any category.

Those who already participated in IEC twice are no longer eligible to apply.

To be eligible for the Working Holiday category, you must

  • be a British citizen from
    • the United Kingdom or
    • the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey
