We are committed to helping you navigate concerns related to the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces. While we aim to respond with clarity and efficiency, we often receive questions about topics that fall outside our mandate

To better support you, we have compiled a list of common subjects we are frequently asked about, along with the appropriate organizations to contact for accurate and timely assistance. 

  • Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) 

    For information about tax filing, tax benefits and your CRA account, visit the Canada Revenue Agency Website

    If you have a complaint about the CRA, contact the Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson (OTO).

  • Immigration, Refugee, Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

    For information about visas, citizenship, permanent residency and more, visit the IRCC client support centre page

  • Veteran Affairs Canada (VAC)

    For information about VAC benefits, or to speak with an agent about a VAC decision, contact Veteran Affairs Canada.

    If you have a complaint about VAC, contact the Office of the Veterans Ombud (OVO). 

  • Reporting a crime 

    We cannot investigate complaints of a criminal nature. If you or someone you know are in danger or a crime is happening, dial 9-1-1 immediately for emergency services in your area. If you want to report a crime, you can visit the RCMP Online Crime Reporting Tool with or contact your local police authorities. 

    Military Police 

    The Military Police enforce laws and regulations on Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) establishments in Canada and abroad. 

    For situations that are not an emergency, or if you’d like to file a complaint, reach out to your local Military Police Detachment

    To submit a complaint concerning Military Police conduct or allegations of interference in military police investigations, refer to the Military Police Complaints Commission of Canada.

  • Politics 

    We do not handle complaints related to political issues, such as decisions made by Members of Parliament, Senators, or other levels of government.

    There are other ombudsman offices that may be able to help you.

    The Forum of Canadian Ombudsman has a national directory of ombudsman offices across Canada, including municipal, provincial, federal, and sector-specific organizations. This list can help you find the right avenue to address your concerns.
