Interview setup page

In the Interview Setup section, tick all the boxes that correspond to the individual's tax situation. For example, specific situations like:

It is also where you select the individual's income categories and the most common types of deductions and credits to which the individual is entitled.

UFile tip

Some of the boxes are ticked by default. To make it easier to navigate the software, you can untick those that do not apply to the individual's situation.

You can come back to the Interview setup page at any time to make changes if needed.

The + sign next to T4 and RL-1 (Relevé 1) income earned in Quebec with QPP contributions is highlighted

Each topic can be accessed from the left-side menu.

Once you have clicked on the topic, applicable income slips, deductions and/or credits can be selected by clicking on the + sign next to each item. This will generate the pages where income amounts or other required information must be entered.

For example, if you click on the + sign next to T4 and RL-1 (Relevé 1) income earned in Quebec with QPP contributions, the topic T4 income will be generated as a topic under T4 and employment income.

If you click the T4 income topic, the T4 – Statement of Remuneration Paid (RL-1) with QPP contributions page will open, listing fields that correspond with the boxes found on the T4 and RL-1 tax slips.

Each tax slip is entered separately.

If the individual's tax slip has a box that is not shown in UFile, scroll down to Other information to select additional options.

Click Next to bring you to the next section.

If you need to correct any information for a particular tax slip, you can return to the page by clicking on the tax slip's name from the left-side menu.

To delete a tax slip, click the - sign to the right of that specific slip.

If an individual has several employers, enter each T4 and RL-1 tax slip for each employer. The software will add these up and report the total amount of employment income on the tax return.

UFile tip

When adding the issuer's or employer's names, they will populate on the left-side menu, making it easier to identify and review the information from a particular tax slip.

In the Other information slips section, enter the information from less commonly encountered tax slips and statements.

ITAVP tip

In this section, the only information you should process is related to the RC210, Advanced Canada workers benefit; and RL-19, Advance Payments of Tax Credits slips.

The Other deductions and credits topic will only appear in the left-side menu if the box next to Other deductions and credits (including school supply and home buyer’s amount) is ticked in the Interview setup, under Other topics.

This page includes topics such as the Northern residents deductions and the Tax credit for recent graduates working in remote resource regions.

To know how to enter a specific tax slip or income, or claim a specific expense or credit, go to the Find a tax topic section to access the UFile instructions.

The Quebec Tax Credits topic is added to the left-side menu once you select Quebec as the province of residence under the Identification topic.

This page includes additional Quebec tax credits as well as information from schedules and forms used to calculate line 462 – Other credits.

The feature is helpful in optimizing the transfer and claim of credits and deductions between family members. It can help reduce the amount of tax owed or ensure refunds are maximized.

As information is entered into the software, MaxBack will automatically make certain decisions to lower taxes payable and maximize the total refund for the individual and, if applicable, their family members.

Those decisions are applicable to both the federal and Quebec tax returns.

If you want to change the MaxBack control options, click the Controls topic in the left-side menu of the software under the Interview tab. Note that you are not required to change the settings on this page.
