Keeping your information up to date with Canada Life

Find out what you need to know about the Canada Life positive enrolment verification initiative to avoid delays in claim processing and payments for you and your eligible dependant(s).

What you need to know

As a member of the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP), you have the responsibility to ensure your positive enrolment information is complete and accurate.

Positive enrolment is the process through which you provide your information and that of your eligible dependant(s) to Canada Life to ensure your claims are processed accurately and without delay. Through positive enrolment, you also have the option to provide your banking information to set up direct deposit, ensuring faster and more convenient claim reimbursements.

You can update your positive enrolment information at any time. If you have not updated your information in more than 2 years, Canada Life will contact you, using your preferred communication method, to request that you review your information on file and make any necessary changes. Such changes may include a new address, a change in marital status or the addition of a new dependant.

Note: Your positive enrolment information must be maintained separately under your public service health and dental plans. If you are a member of multiple benefit plans administered by Canada Life, you will need to review and update your information separately for each plan.

When to update your employer: don’t forget that any personal information updated with Canada Life must also be updated with the Pay Centre, the Pension Centre, your departmental compensation office or your pension office (whichever applies).

How to update your positive enrolment information

Update your positive enrolment and banking information:

  • online: by signing in to your PSHCP Member Services account or
  • by mail: by completing a paper PSHCP Positive Enrolment form and/or PSHCP Direct Deposit form. Both forms can be found on the Forms page of the PSHCP Member Services website. You can also call Canada Life to request that a form be sent to you by mail.

Detailed instructions on how to update your information will be provided in the notice from Canada Life. You can also refer to the Keep your positive enrolment information up to date section of the PSHCP Member Booklet.

It is recommended that you also update your information under your dental plan(s). To do so, visit the relevant Member Services website(s) to access the appropriate positive enrolment form(s) on the Forms page. Alternatively, you can call Canada Life to request that a form be sent to you by mail.

Note: Member information, such as your legal first and last name, date of birth, official language, and level of coverage, must be changed by the Pay Centre, the Pension Centre, your departmental compensation office or your pension office (whichever applies), as it cannot be modified through your Public Service Health and Dental Member Services accounts.

If you do not update your information

If your positive enrolment information is not kept up to date, you may be at risk of unnecessary claim processing and payment delays and claim overpayments for ineligible dependants.

In addition, verifying your information will ensure your coverage levels and monthly contribution rates are accurate, helping you avoid contribution overpayments.

Next steps

Beginning with pensioners in , followed by active members in , and continuing every 2 years throughout the life of the contract, Canada Life will send positive enrolment packages to members that have not updated or verified their positive enrolment information in 2 years. The package will be sent through your preferred communication method and will include instructions on how to review and update your positive enrolment information.

If you do not receive a notice from Canada Life, this means you have updated or validated your information under the PSHCP within the last 2 years. However, it is still your responsibility to update your information any time a change occurs.
