Nothing without us: An accessibility strategy for the Public Service of Canada

Our vision is to make Canada’s public service the most accessible and inclusive in the world. Our work is in setting the conditions for the public service of Canada to identify, prevent, and remove barriers to participation for persons with disabilities. Our strategy is a roadmap to prepare the public service to lead by example and become a model of accessibility for others, in Canada and abroad.

Transcript - The Honourable Mona Fortier’s message to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities

December 3 marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day to celebrate the contributions of persons with disabilities and the progress achieved on accessibility.

The Government of Canada continues to work towards becoming the most accessible and inclusive public service in the world.

Three years into the implementation of our Accessibility Strategy, Nothing Without Us, we continue to work to create the conditions that allow people with all types of disabilities to thrive.

As we’re working to build a barrier-free public service, I’m proud of our work to create the Government of Canada Workplace Accessibility Passport, a new tool that streamlines the workplace accommodation process for employees with disabilities.

We also know that there is still more work to be done. That’s why every Government of Canada department and agency will submit an accessibility plan by the end of this year. This plan will highlight how each organization intends to identify, remove and prevent barriers to the full participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities, federal employees and citizens alike.

I’m looking forward to continuing the great work already underway to advance accessibility and disability inclusion in Canada.
