Release for Reservists

As a Canadian Armed Forces member, you can request to release at any point in your career. Make sure you are well informed before making that decision.

The following resource can help you better understand the release process, including the medical release process: Information for Reservists to assist their Release from the Canadian Armed Forces.

Update: As of July 11, 2025, Reserve Transition Support is provided by Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group (CAF TG). You may be eligible if you:

  • are ill or injured while on full-time reserve service and
  • have medical employment limitations that restrict your employment for at least 6 months.

To learn more about the RTS policy and related services, your eligibility and how a request is initiated, refer to CAF Military Personnel Instruction (CAFMPI) 06/25, related references, CFAMPI 05/25 and DND Form 4452 (Only on the Defence Network)

To find out more about Ill and injured support programs and services for reservists, please consult your chain of command and your nearest CAF Transition Centre Services Coordinator.
