Resources for legislators
Our main role is to ensure that members of the Defence community are treated fairly by the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). You can find out more by reviewing information about our office and our mandate.
As a legislator, you are an important link between our constituents and yours. We can help in four ways:
- We promote awareness of recommendations made by our office to improve the Defence community through systemic investigations. In doing so, the Ombud may appear before Parliamentary committees or hold one on one meetings with legislators like you to provide additional information about our recommendations.
We provide additional information on issues affecting the Defence community.
We share information that our office is hearing concerning issues that affect the Defence community as well as what you are hearing about those issues.
Our team ensures Defence community members receive all necessary guidance or assistance. If you are aware of a Defence community member who has an issue with the DND or the CAF, please do not hesitate to refer that individual to our office.
We also work closely with the Office of the Veterans Ombud, especially on issues related to transition from military life to being a veteran.
Our Ombud is always ready to appear before a legislative committee or to brief your office on issues affecting the Defence community.
We are ready to help.
