Building big projects that will transform and connect Canada's economy.
The Major Projects Office (MPO) is advancing nation-building projects faster and more responsibly to help connect our economy, diversify our industries and trade, and create high-paying careers for generations to come. How it works
Identifying nation-building projects
We work with proponents, federal departments, provinces and territories, Indigenous Peoples, and industry to help identify projects that offer the greatest benefits for Canadians.
Submitting project information
We accept proposals for major projects including ports, railways, energy corridors, critical mineral developments, and clean energy initiatives, among others, to be considered as national-building major projects.
Evaluating projects
We assess projects against the five factors outlined in the Building Canada Act, among others, and provide recommendations and advice to federal ministers and the Prime Minister.
MPO supports
We provide varied support to projects based on the project type, status and unique requirements.
Projects designated under the Building Canada Act
In addition to other support, the Building Canada Act is one tool we may recommend for projects that would benefit from regulatory streamlining.
Designation under the Building Canada Act will help advance select major projects deemed to be of national interest by conditionally approving them to further streamline federal review and approval processes.
