If local currency is not supported, payments will be issued by cheque in Canadian dollars.

This list is subject to change depending on the foreign banking arrangements made by the Receiver General of Canada and the Bank of America conversion service.

How receiving payments in your local currency can save you money

Your payments will already be converted into the local currency of the country where you live, which may give you a better exchange rate and help you avoid extra banking fees.

Why payment amounts may vary due to currency exchange

Daily changes in currency exchange rates may cause your payment amount to vary each month. This happens even though your entitlement amount in Canadian dollars remains the same.

If your payment currency is incorrect or needs to change

Your payment currency is determined by the mailing address we have on file.

Once you update your address, future payments will be issued in the local currency—either by direct deposit (where available) or by cheque (if supported in your country). If the country is not eligible for direct deposit or cheques issued in foreign currency, your payments will be made by cheque in Canadian currency.

Depending on the benefits you receive, you can change your mailing address using the options below.

Payment dates

Posted cheques may take longer than direct deposit. Please wait 5 to 10 business days before contacting the program.

When your monthly amount may increase due to cost of living

If the cost of living in Canada goes up, your monthly payment will increase every January (CPP) or quarterly (OAS). This increase is based on the Consumer Price Index. If the cost of living in Canada goes down, your payments will not decrease.

Keep your information up to date

Depending on the benefits you receive, you can change your direct deposit information, mailing address, or telephone number using the available options.
