Before you contact us
Check answers to commonly asked questions:
Application status, processing times and refusals
Application status
If your application is currently being processed, our agents can’t provide updates beyond what’s available online. They don’t have access to more information about your case status and they can’t tell you how much longer your application will take.
Questions about application status:
- Why your application status hasn’t changed in a long time
- What your status means in the application status tracker
- Why your application might be considered complex or non-routine
Processing times
Use our processing times tool to get an idea of how long it takes us to process most applications. Your application may take longer than the estimates shown. They’re not a maximum or a guarantee.

Application refusals
If your application is refused, you’ll receive a refusal letter explaining the general reason for the decision.
For some application types, we also send officer decision notes. These are notes from the officer who reviewed and made the final decision on your file.
