In this section
Clothing issued by departments and worn by staff who are in view of the public includes:
- uniforms, for example, for park wardens, coast guard personnel and border services officers
- other wearable items such as jackets, vests and hard hats
- apparel worn by staff at official events
The Canada wordmark and the corporate signature:
- can be displayed separately from each other
- may be applied using methods such as embroidery or silkscreen
- are not to be applied if they affect the protective properties of safety wear
Additional information such as a name, function or authority (including rank insignia) may appear on an employee’s uniform.
No other additional identifying symbols or logos can appear unless their use has been approved by the Treasury Board.
See the National Joint Council’s Uniforms Directive for more information.
Uniforms
The Canada wordmark and the corporate signature must be displayed on the upper third of shirts, jackets and vests, using one of the following options (see Figure 1):
- left and right shoulders (A)
- on the front (B)
The Canada wordmark may also be applied to the upper back (C), in combination with A or B.

Headwear
For headwear, such as hardhats, baseball caps and toques, the Canada wordmark and the corporate signature must be applied to the front or sides of the item. If space is limited, the Canada wordmark or the corporate signature can be used alone. If the headwear does not have a flat or smooth surface, the Canada wordmark and the corporate signature do not need to be applied.
Event apparel
When a department issues apparel to be worn by employees at official events such as trade shows, applying the Canada wordmark and the corporate signature to that apparel is at the discretion of the department.
