Statements and speeches from the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada

One of the roles of the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada (CPHO) is to communicate public health information to the Canadian public. This includes sharing information related to the health and safety of Canadians through regular statements and speeches. Since early 2020, these have mainly focused on COVID-19.

Statements: These statements update Canadians on a range of health-related issues. COVID-19 statements provide the most recent information on current and emerging issues relating to COVID-19 and links to useful resources. Other topics covered in these statements include the opioid epidemic, vaccine hesitancy and youth vaping.

Sunday Edition: This is a dedicated series of weekend statements that explore key topics related to COVID-19 in greater detail.

Live updates (speeches): The CPHO provides a live update on COVID-19 to the public and media every Tuesday and Friday. These updates relay the latest COVID-19 case numbers, as well as important public health information related to COVID-19.
