Forward Regulatory Plan 2022-2024: Amendments to the Cannabis Regulations, the Industrial Hemp Regulations and the Cannabis Tracking System Order (Streamlining Certain Regulatory Obligations)
Title of Regulatory Initiative
Amendments to the Cannabis Regulations, the Industrial Hemp Regulations and the Cannabis Tracking System Order (Streamlining Certain Regulatory Obligations)
Health Canada is proposing amendments to the Cannabis Regulations, the Industrial Hemp Regulations and the Cannabis Tracking System Order to simplify and reduce requirements related to record keeping, reporting and notifications, and to provide more flexibility in meeting certain requirements related to matters such as antimicrobial treatment.
Regulatory cooperation efforts (domestic and international)
This initiative is not part of a formal regulatory cooperation work plan.
Potential impacts on Canadians, including businesses
It is anticipated that the proposed amendments would reduce the overall regulatory burden on regulated parties, without compromising the public health and safety objectives of the Cannabis Act.
Stakeholders that may be impacted by these proposed amendments include licence holders under the Cannabis Act and provinces and territories.
Feedback was provided on this regulatory package via a Notice of Intent published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on December 12, 2020, for a 30-day public comment period.
Further consultations will take place in 2022, via a new Notice of Intent in the Canada Gazette, Part I.
Canadians will have the opportunity to provide comments on the regulatory proposal during the Canada Gazette, Part I, public comment period, which is expected to take place in winter 2023.
