Forward Regulatory Plan 2022-2024: Regulations Amending the Pest Control Products Regulations (Applications and Imports)
Title of Regulatory Initiative
Regulations Amending the Pest Control Products Regulations (Applications and Imports)
Health Canada is proposing regulatory amendments would amend certain aspects of the application and importation process for pest control products in Canada. Proposed changes are intended to codify operational policy.
This regulatory initiative is part of HC comprehensive review of the Pest Control Products Regulations.
Regulatory cooperation efforts (domestic and international)
The proposed amendments support Canada's commitment to meeting its obligations under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
Potential impacts on Canadians, including businesses
While maintaining health and environmental protection, the proposed amendments would: make changes that are anticipated to have no impact on regulated parties (e.g., they codify current practice), and streamline aspects of the application process to reduce regulatory and administrative burden. Overall, a reduction in administrative burden is anticipated.
Pre-consultation on the proposed amendments were held in 2018. Additional consultations launched on October 28, 2020, for a 70-day public comment period.
Canadians will have the opportunity to provide comments on the proposed regulatory amendments during the Canada Gazette, Part I, public comment period, which is expected to take place in winter 2022.
The publication of the final amendments in the Canada Gazette, Part II, is expected to take place in fall 2022.
