Narrator: The Thuot-Fortins always manage to spend quality together. Here's one of their little secrets!
Flashback: Seated at a table inside the house, the family pores over a laptop and a pile of magazines.
Pierre-Alexandre Fortin and Saskia Thuot speak to the camera.
Pierre-Alexandre: We often plan meals with the kids by finding recipes online, in cookbooks, or in grocery flyers.
Saskia Thuot: When we involve the kids, it makes them want to eat. They're the ones deciding what’s on their plate. It works really well. It's so easy in summer – there are tonnes of fresh fruits and vegetables. So we tell the kids, "You can have whatever you want".
The son takes a whole pile of vegetables out of the fridge and lays it on the kitchen counter.
Pierre-Alexandre cooks meat, squash, and bell peppers on the barbecue. He places the food on a plate, ready to serve.
Pierre-Alexandre: When I grill meat like chicken or pork, or veggies like zucchini or peppers, I always make extra. They make great salads for the next day!
Saskia Thuot: And for lunches too! Come eat, kids, supper’s ready!
At the dinner table, Saskia pours glasses of water while Pierre-Alexandre puts the plate in the middle of the table.
